The National Universities Commission (NUC) has reported that around 100 phony educators have been revealed by the commission. This was unveiled by the Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed at the 2019 retreats for Vice-Chancellors. The phony educators were posted on the NUC site and were revealed when the commission sent their names to the colleges for confirmation.
The commission had published a full directory of professors in the Nigeria University System (NUS) among other things which aided in sorting out the fraud. The NUC boss said that the updated version of those documents would be published by December 2019 and that professors in their respective universities uploaded their curricula vitae on the website which was used in the compilation of the directory of full professors in the NUS and had helped in identifying fake professors in the system.
